This is an extract from “Theodore and District History”, (c) Theodore Historical Society, published in 1987.
I assume this was written by mother (Oda) in 1985 when information for the district history was being gathered.
(Tara is mentioned, but not any of Oda’s younger grandchildren. My job at AES is also referenced).
(OSTAPOVITCH), Oda Rosabelle and Daniel Yacovitch
Oda, the eleventh child of Rose and Fred Ostapovitch, was born May 10, 1925. She attended Theodore School and on completing grade twelve, enjoyed a year as “mother’s helper” until she reached eighteen.
She graduated from Saskatoon City Hospital nursing program in 1946 and remained on staff for two months, at a monthly salary of eighty dollars,
While studying for her R.N. exams. Her last memorable Christmas at home was in 1946.
In February 1947 Oda accompanied her parents via the CPR train to Montreal on a visit to their family. She accepted her brother Peter’s offer of a job as a dental nurse and remained a resident of Montreal to this day. She left dental nursing in 1948 and joined the Montreal Neurological Institute as a staff nurse.
Oda was married in Montreal June 1949 to Daniel Yacovitch of Montreal. They raised two sons, Robert and Terence, and Oda was inactive in nursing for five years while her children were young.
Oda and Dan both retired in 1980, Oda after twenty-seven years of neurological nursing, and Dan following thirty-five years as an officer of the Montreal police force, a Chief Inspector on retirement.
