COVID-19 Vaccination – First Pfizer Shot Done!

by | 2021-03-24

I booked an appointment on March 1, the day they started taking appointments for 70+. I wasn’t particularly aggressive about finding the easiest possible appointment. I booked the closest site, earliest available there.

Got the first shot yesterday (March 23). Pfizer.

So far, only very minor pain at the injection site.

Very smooth operation. In one door, out another, with path through the various stations. No line-up when I arrived. (There were 20-30 people waiting their 15 minutes at the end). First and last interactions were with uniformed rent-a-cops. Inside, there were non-uniformed staff giving directions.

4 staff at reception. Scanned the Medicare card, verified information, and booked the 2nd shot — July 13. (They’re doing first shots first). Informed that they were using Pfizer vaccine that day.

8 vaccination desks. Verified identity again, gave the shot, issued slip with date and type of 1st shot, sticker on hand when I could leave (15 minutes later) in case of allergic reaction. Informed that 14 days after 1st shot protection is 92%. Informed that the 2nd shot (booster) would be either Pfizer or Moderna.

Around 30 chairs spaced 2 meters apart in wait area. We were given a laminated card saying “Dirty/Sale” to leave on chair after we left.

Sanitation seemed somewhat excessive. On entry, they gave a new procedure-type mask to use. Hand sanitizer 5 times (before every interaction with staff.) There were people wiping down the chairs after anyone sat in them.
