A biography of Peter Higgs and his particle, the Higgs Boson.
Are all famous physicists on the spectrum? Seems so.
The biographical information in the book is limited. Higgs is a very private person.
The majority of the book presents the historical context of standard model in particle physics and the history of the Cern particle accelerators that detected the boson.
Interesting factoids:
- Peter Higgs attended the same high school as Paul Dirac. Higgs’ interest in physics was triggered by his admiration of Dirac.
- Several other physicists had the same insight as Higgs. Higgs paper that suggested the existence of the Higgs Boson was the first published, but the precedence largely was due to the vagaries of the postal systems and journal editors actions.
I enjoyed the book.
